ABOUT
This project is aiming for an understanding of 'NZ 3604' Building code and timber frame structure.
After the government house has moved to Wellington, the old government house has become an ordinary building with cafes and sometimes an event centre, However, due to lack of interest, the building is not known as the government building to many other people Wellington. This is because it is hidden behind many big trees and is hard to be located. Only a few people know about its historic. The site feels isolated and disconnected from the public.
Our main goal is to give life to the site by using the resources from nature. Eventually, through the new life of our main building, we were able to make a connection to the public. Building Concept was inspired by the idea of breath from the Maori myth about the God of Sky (father) and Goddess of Earth(mother).
Our design will be used for an exhibition and a conference centre. Also, we aimed to connect this building to the public and not be separated from the others in which only the private staff members would enter. Therefore, the building is designed to have shelters, walkways and shortcuts in which it connects the Auckland University to the Albert St.
