ABOUT
These days, People are becoming more and more homeless and this has become one of the big problems in this generation. Statically, it has proven that more people became homeless within a couple of years in New Zealand. Now we see them anywhere at any time. Even this is true, we kept on ignoring the fact they were always around us. They are begging lots of time (cannot say everyone), and are sleeping anywhere on the street.
I want to approach them and help them but at the same time, I feel scared to go around them and do not exactly know the proper way to help them. Most people would feel the same way as I do, as homeless people are known to be 'not clean' in another word, “PARASITES” in our lives. We share our city; spaces and provide them with food (or money) for them to live even though we do not get any benefits from it. I think this has become worse within the past few years.
As a solution, I have decided that if we provide them with proper shelter and specific space to live in, at the same time if that space helps out life better. It could possibly change it and change the city. In my research, I have learnt that space is more like space ‘SHARED’ by others than a place that is ‘kept’ by others.
DESIGN QUESTION
“Can’t we just share our lives and spaces in a good way?”
SITE VISIT
My site is situated beside the Mayoral Drive; between the Auckland library and WG Building of AUT.
Space is currently on construction due to its developments. Many people don’t actually know space exists even though it consists of large land. The space is currently blocked from its views from many streets due to massive orange walls surrounding it. These walls are currently being used for advertisement purposes. I also noticed that the roads near the site are dark and many people prefer not to approach it during night times.

RESEARCH
Through my research about homeless people, I got into an idea of the ‘PARASITE’. This also made me feel as if the homeless people were like mushrooms.
Mushrooms are parasites of the tree or anywhere that has the right condition to grow. We think mushrooms are just parasites of the tree that does no benefits to its host. However, this is wrong and the mushrooms to give a lot of benefits to the tree. Some mushrooms actually have abilities to help trees from getting sick.
Similar to this idea, I wanted to create a space that can bring lives to an environment that is currently already dead. Mushrooms come in a variety of colours and unique shapes which makes them apart from other living creatures on earth.
